추수감사절과 성탄절

지난 11월 28일이 미국 추수감사절이었습니다. 미국은 추수감사절을 크게 지내는데, 10월에 있는 캐나다 추수감사절은 별로 크게 지내지 않습니다. 오히려 캐나다에서는 미국 추수감사절을 기준으로 하는 Black Friday를 더 기억합니다.

캐나다도 그렇겠지만, 미국에서는 크리스마스 쇼핑이 가장 큰 대목입니다. 11월 말에 있는 추수감사절이 지나면 크리스마스 쇼핑을 시작하다고 합니다. 그래서 크리스마스 쇼핑을 하는 사람들을 끌려고 추수감사절 다음 날에 크게 세일을 시작하는 것 같습니다.

빅토리아에 살 때 운전을 하면서 기독교 방송을 주로 들었습니다. 우연히 발견한 것이 있는데, 기독교 방송에서 추수감사절 다음날부터 거의 성탄절 노래를 튼다는 것이었습니다. 그리고 성탄절이 끝나면 거짓말처럼 성탄절 노래가 사라집니다^^

우리 크리스찬에게 Black Friday는 성탄절을 기억하고 준비하기 시작하는 날이 되었으면 좋겠습니다. 미국 추수감사절이 넷째 목요일이니까 빠르면 11월 22일, 느리면 올 해처럼 28일입니다. 크리스마스까지 평균 한 달 전이 되는 것입니다.

성탄절은 우리 벌을 대신 받으시려고 십자가에 돌아가시기 위해 인간으로 오신 날입니다. 그래서 성탄절을 가장 잘 기억하는 것은 전도하기에 힘쓰는 것입니다. 전도를 위해 우리가 실질적으로 할 수 있는 것중 하나가 안믿는 분들(VIP)을 성탄주일 예배에 초청하는 것입니다.

성탄주일 예배 때에 각 목장과 주일학교와 학생부에서 발표를 합니다. 내용이 세상에서 보는 오락물보다 못하지 않습니다. 그래서 교회도 재미있는 곳이고, 교회 다니는 사람들은 행복한 사람들이라는 것을 보여줄 수 있는 좋은 기회입니다. 아이들만 교회에 보내는 부모님들을 초청할 좋은 기회이기도 합니다.

먼저 초청할 대상을 위해 기도하려고 합니다. 각 목장에서는 성탄 예배에 초청할 VIP 명단을 만들어서 최태실 새신자 부장에게 주시기 바랍니다. 그러면 VIP 명단을 취합헤서 교회적으로 VIP명단을 만들어서 기도하려고 합니다. 그리고성탄 예배 초청장을 만들어서 그분들에게 드리려고 합니다. 성탄 예배가 있는 날에는 선물과 맛있는 식사도 준비되어 있습니다.

각 목장별로 발표할 것을 준비하고, 발표하는 것을 보여주려고 VIP를 초대하고, 그분들을 위해 기도하고, 그분들을 섬기는 모습을 예수님께서 기뻐하실 것입니다.

Thanksgiving and Christmas

November 28th was American Thanksgiving. In the United States, they celebrate Thanksgiving as a big holiday, but Canada's Thanksgiving in October is not so big. Rather, in Canada we remember Black Friday more, which is based on American Thanksgiving.

Christmas shopping is a big thing in the United States, as it is in Canada. It is said that Christmas shopping begins after Thanksgiving, which falls at the end of November. That's why big sales start the day after Thanksgiving to attract people doing Christmas shopping.

When I lived in Victoria, I usually listened to Christian broadcasts while driving. What I discovered by chance was that Christian broadcasts start playing Christmas songs almost immediately the day after Thanksgiving. And when Christmas is over, Christmas songs disappear like a lie^^

For us Christians, I hope that Black Friday will be a day to remember and begin preparing for Christmas. Since American Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday, it falls on November 22nd at the earliest, or on the 28th like this year at the latest. That's an average of one month before Christmas.

Christmas is the day when Jesus came as a human to die on the cross to take our punishment. So the best way to remember Christmas is to strive to evangelize. One of the practical things we can do for evangelism is to invite non-believers (VIPs) to the Christmas Sunday service.

During the Christmas Sunday service, presentations are given by each MokJang, Sunday school, and secondafy students. The content is no worse than entertainment seen in the world. So, it is a good opportunity to show that church is also a fun place and that church people are happy people. This is also a great opportunity to invite parents who only send their children to church.

First, I would like to pray for those who will be invited. Please make a list of VIPs to be invited to the Christmas Sunday service at each MokJang and give it to Choi Tae-sil, new believer manager. Then, we will compile the VIP list and create a church-wide VIP list for prayer. And we will make an invitation card to the Christmas Sunday service and give it to them. At the Christmas Sunday, gifts and delicious meals are also provided.

Jesus will be pleased as we prepare presentations for each MokJang, invite VIPs to show them what we are presenting, pray for them, and serve them.
