세상이 무섭지만…
지난 총선에서 한국 야당은 이른바 ‘국회선진화법’을 무력화시킬 수 있는 180석 이상을 얻었습니다. 그래서 국회에서 무슨 법이라도 만들 수 있게 된 야당은 무리하게 법을 만들고, 대통령은 거부권을 행사합니다.
대통령이 거부권을 행사한 법안을 뒤집으려면 200석이 필요하기 때문에 거부된 법안은 폐기됩니다. 당연하게도 여당을 통해 정부가 만드는 법은 야당의 반대로 거의 통과되지 못합니다. 정치는 타협의 예술이라는데, 타협은 사라지고 서로 죽도록 싸우는 것 같습니다.
사회가 양극화되듯이 정치가 양극화 되는 것은 세계적인 현상인 것 같습니다. 그런데 우리나라는 그 정도가 심합니다. 정치 평론가들은 박근혜 전 대통령 탄핵 이후 양극화가 심해졌다고 합니다. 다른 의견을 가진 사람들을 인정하지 않고 적으로 생각합니다.
거기다가 요새는 개인도 생각이 너무 강합니다. 대부분의 세상 일은 이럴 수도 있고 저럴 수도 있는 것인데, 극단적인 한가지만을 절대적인 것으로 주장합니다. 그래서 생각이 다르면 가족간에도 싸운다고 합니다. 미움을 넘어서 서로 증오합니다. 저는 그런 모습이 무섭습니다.
이번 게엄 전에는 대통령 부인인 김건희 여사에 대해 그렇게 관대했던 검찰과 경찰이 게엄 후에는 윤대통령을 ‘내란수괴’라고 부르며 체포하고 구속하겠다고 경쟁을 벌입니다. 권력의 끈이 떨어졌다고 이렇게 하루 아침에 바뀔 수가 있는지요. 저는 그런 세상이 무섭습니다.
남을 인정하지 않고 증오하는 세상, 상황이 바뀐다고 대우가 확 변하는 세상… 너무 안타깝지만 우리 크리스찬에게는 기회라는 생각도 듭니다.
의견이 달라도 서로 인정하는 모습, 내가 손해를 봐도 남을 배려하는 모습, 상황이 바뀌어도 의리를 지키는 모습, 그렇게 살면서 기뻐하는 사람들.
남의 약접을 비난하지 않고 가슴 아파하는 마음, 그래서 자신의 약점을 스스럼없이 드러내는 분위기, 그러면서 자신의 상처가 치유되는 공동체.
남을 위해 희생하면서도 힘들어 하지 않고 기뻐하는 성숙함, 그러면서 자신도 모르게 인격이 성숙되는 것을 보고 놀라는 사람들.
완전하지는 않지만 우리 교회 성도님들의 모습이라고 생각합니다. 그래서 아직 세상에 소망이 있고, 이런 우리가 험악한 세상을 바꿀 수 있다고 믿습니다.
The world is scary, but…
In the last general election, the Korean opposition parties won more than 180 seats, enough to neutralize the so-called ‘National Assembly Advancement Act’. So, the opposition parties, which can make any law in the National Assembly, make the law unreasonably, and the president exercises his veto power.
Because the opposition parties do not have 200 seats to overturn vetoed bills, they are thrown out. Naturally, laws made by the government through the ruling party are rarely passed due to opposition from the opposition party. They say politics is the art of compromise, but it seems like compromise has disappeared and people are fighting to the death.
Polarization of politics, just as society is becoming polarized, seems to be a global phenomenon. However, in our country, the situation is severe. Political commentators say that polarization has worsened since the impeachment of former President Park Geun-hye. They do not accept people with different opinions and consider them enemies.
Moreover, these days, even individuals have very strong opinions. Most things in the world can be one way or another, but only one extreme is asserted as absolute. When people have different opinions, they fight even among family members. This hatred becomes contempt. I'm scared of that sight.
The prosecution and police, who had been so lenient on the President's wife Kim Kun-hee before the December 3 martial law, are competing to arrest and detain President Yoon, calling him ‘the head of rebellion’. Can things change overnight like this just because the strings of power have fallen? I'm scared of this kind of world.
A world where people do not acknowledge and hate others, a world where treatment changes drastically as the situation changes... It's so unfortunate, but I also think it's an opportunity for us Christians.
People who accept each other even when they have different opinions, who are considerate of others even when they suffer losses, and who remain loyal even when the situation changes. People who are happy to live like that.
A community where one's own wounds are healed, with an atmosphere in which one feels heartache without criticizing others' weak practices, and thus one's own weaknesses are revealed without hesitation.
People who don’t suffer but rejoice when sacrificing, and are surprised of seeing their character maturing without even realizing it.
I think this is the image of our church members, although not perfect. So, I believe that there is still hope in the world and that we
can change this harsh world.
