요새 한국을 보면서 답답하고 우울합니다. 상황을 분석하고 평가하기 보다는 두가지 교훈을 생각해 봅니다.
먼저 이해의 폭을 넓혀야 한다는 것입니다. 저는 나름 상식적인 사람이고 이해의 폭이 넓다고 생각합니다. 그런데 요새 정치인들의 모습이나 행동을 이해하지 못하는 경우가 많습니다.
그동안 윤석열 대통령이 이해하기 힘든 일을 너무 많이 했습니다. 그래서 이렇게 이해해 보려고 했습니다. “아내에게 조종당하고 있구나, 아니면 아내를 너무 사랑하는구나.” 그런데 이번에 게엄 사태와 그후의 행태를 보면서 그것도 아닌 것 같습니다. 도대체 이해가 안됩니다.
여당과 야당도 마찬가지입니다. 다수당인 야당은 자기 마음에 들지 않으면 누구든지 탄핵을 합니다. 대통령이 거부권을 행사할 것이 확실한 법안을 통과시킵니다. 일부러 거부권을 유도하는 듯 합니다. 여당도 윤대통령의 행태에 대해서 한마디도 못합니다. 도대체 이해가 안됩니다.
두번째로는 예상하지 못하는 일에 대비해야 한다는 것입니다. 작년 12월 3일에 있은 게엄은 누구도 예상하지 못한 일이었습니다. 그 일로 인해 그동안 가장 큰 이슈였던 김건희, 명태균 이슈가 싹 묻혔습니다.
게엄이 있은 후에는 대통령 탄핵이 가장 큰 이슈였습니다. 그런데 제주항공 여객기 참사가 일어나니까대통령 탄핵 이슈가 잠시나마 조용해졌습니다.
우리 믿는 사람들도 세상을 보는 시각을 넓혀야 합니다. 요새는 과거와는 다르게 행동하는 사람들이 많습니다. 옛날에는 이상한 행동이 요즘은 정상으로 받아들여집니다. 본인들도 그렇게 생각할 것입니다. 상식과 이해의 폭을 넓혀서 이해하기 힘든 사람도 이해하도록 노력해야 할 것입니다. 그래야 그런 사람들과 교제할 수 있고 전도할 수 있습니다.
두번째로 예상못할 상황이 일어날 것을 예상하고 있어야 합니다. 요새는 자연재해도 시도 때도 없이 일어납니다. 100 년 만에 일어날 홍수가 2 년만에 일어납니다. 그리고 일상에 너무 매몰되지 말고 새로운 상황에 대처할 수 있도록 여유를 갖는 것이 지혜로운 것 같습니다.
Two lessons learned from watching Korea these days
I feel frustrated and depressed watching Korea these days. Rather than analyzing and evaluating the situation, I think of two lessons.
First, we need to broaden our understanding. I think I am a person with common sense and a broad understanding. However, these days, there are many cases where I cannot understand the character or behavior of politicians.
President Yoon Seok-yeol has done too many things that are difficult to understand. So I tried to understand him this way. “He is being controlled by his wife, or he loves her too much.” However, looking at the recent martial law incident and his subsequent behaviors, that does not seem to be the case. I cannot understand him at all.
The same goes for the ruling and opposition parties. The opposition party, which is the majority party, impeaches anyone if it doesn’t like it. It passes a bill that the president is sure to veto. It seems like they are deliberately inducing the veto. The ruling party also doesn’t say a word about President Yoon’s behavior. I really don’t understand.
The second is that we must prepare for the unexpected. The martial law that took place on December 3rd of last year was something that no one could have predicted. Because of that, the biggest issues up until then, the Kim Kun-hee and Myeong Tae-gyun issues, were all forgotten.
After the martial law, the impeachment of the president was the biggest issue. However, when the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster occurred, the issue of impeachment of the president became quiet for a while.
We believers also need to broaden our perspective on the world. Many people act differently now from in the past. Strange behaviors in the past are now accepted as normal. They probably think the same way. We need to broaden our common sense and understanding to understand people who are difficult to understand. Only then can we associate with them and evangelize them.
Second, we need to expect unexpected situations to occur. Natural disasters occur all the time these days. A flood that occurs once in a hundred years occurs in two years. It seems wise not to be too immersed in daily life and to have the leeway to deal with new situations.
