네비게이션의 목적?
지난 2월 16일, 겨울폭풍이 몬트리올 지역을 지나가고 이틀 뒤인 18일, SAAQ에 가야 할 일이 있어 아침 일찍 집을 나섰습니다. 몬트리올에 와서 운전면허시험장을 두 번째 방문하는 길이라, 네비게이션에 목적지를 입력하고 출발했습니다.
눈이 많이 내렸기에 예약 시간보다 20~30분 더 걸릴 것을 예상하고 여유롭게 나섰습니다 그런데, 운전 중 네비게이션을 확인해 보니, 15번 고속도로가 맥길 대학병원부터 T&T 마켓까지 정체된 구간이 빨간색으로 표시되어 있었습니다. 고속도로를 계속 타는 대신 우회하는 것이 낫겠다고 판단해 지방도로로 빠져나왔습니다.
그러나 얼마 지나지 않아 제 판단이 잘못 되었음을 깨닫게 되었습니다. 양방향 통행이던 도로는 양쪽에 산처럼 쌓인 눈으로 인해 차 한 대만 겨우 지나갈 수 있을 정도로 좁아졌고, 마주 오 던 차가 눈에 갇혀 오도 가도 못 하는 상황이 벌어졌습니다. 일대는 아수라장이 되었고, 결국 30분 일찍 출발했음에도 예약 시간보다 30분 늦게 도착하게 된 것입니다. 되돌아보니, 네비게이션의 안내를 따라갔다면 시간이 평상시 보다는 더 걸리더라도 늦지 않고 시간 내에 도착할 수 있었을 거라 생각이 되었습니다.
네비게이션은 목적지까지 가장 빠른 경로를 제시하기도 하지만, 네비게이션의 궁극적인 목적은 정확한 장소로 안내하는 데 있습니다. 가끔은 네비게이션을 따라가다 보면 지체될 수도 있지만, 결국 올바른 경로로 우리를 인도합니다.
우리의 인생도 마찬가지입니다. 우리는 이생이 최종 목적지가 아닙니다. 우리의 목적지는 하나님과 영원히 관계하며 살아 가는 천국입니다. 그 목적지로 우리를 바르게 인도하는 유일한 네비게이션은 하나님의 말씀입니다. 이스라엘 백성이 40년간 광야에서 지낼 때, 하나님의 임재를 상징하는 언약궤가 그들 앞에서 인도했던 것처럼, 우리도 하나님의 말씀을 따라가야 합니다.
네비게이션은 지도경로를 보여주고 중요한 지점에서는 음성으로 안내를 합니다. 하나님은 말씀을 통해 우리의 인생의 길을 안내하시며 중요할 때는 음성을 들려주십니다. 때로는 길이 막히고 더뎌 보일 수 있습니다. 그러나 하나님의 말씀의 네비게이션을 끝까지 신뢰하고 따라간다면, 결국 우리가 가야 할 도착지점에 안전하게 도착하게 될 것입니다.
O.T.(Quiet Time/경건의 시간)와 새벽기도는 우리를 바른 길로 인도하는 인생의 네비게이션이라 생각합니다. 매일 성경을 펴고 하나님의 말씀을 통해 주시는 음성에 귀 기울이고, 기도를 통해 하나님을 신뢰하며 살겠다고 맡겨드리는 것입니다. 그 시간을 정해 놓고 주님의 음성을 듣고 인도함 받기를 기도합니다.
The Purpose of Navigation?
On February 16, a winter storm passed through the Montreal area. Two days later, on the 18th, I had to go to the SAAQ and left home early in the morning. Since it was my second visit to the driving test center in Montreal, I entered the destination into my navigation system and set off.
Due to the heavy snowfall, I anticipated that the trip would take 20 to 30 minutes longer than usual, so I left with plenty of time to spare. However, while driving, I checked my navigation and saw that Highway 15 was congested from McGill University Hospital to T&T Market, marked in red. Thinking it would be better to take a detour rather than stay on the highway, I exited onto a local road.
It didn't take long for me to realize that my decision was a mistake. The road, which was supposed to be two-way, had become so narrow due to towering piles of snow on both sides that only one car could barely pass at a time. To make matters worse, an oncoming vehicle got stuck in the snow, blocking all movement. The entire area turned into chaos, and despite leaving 30 minutes early, I ended up arriving 30 minutes late for my appointment. Looking back, I realized that if I had followed the navigation system’s instructions, I might have taken longer than usual, but I would have still arrived on time.
A navigation system provides the fastest possible route, but ultimately, its true purpose is to guide us to the correct destination. Sometimes, following it may seem slow or inconvenient, but it ensures we stay on the right path.
Our lives work in the same way. This life is not our final destination. Our ultimate goal is to dwell eternally in a relationship with God in heaven. The only true navigation system that leads us to that destination is the Word of God. Just as the Ark of the Covenant—symbolizing God’s presence—led the Israelites through the wilderness for 40 years, we too must follow God’s Word.
A navigation system provides a visual map and gives voice instructions at critical moments. Similarly, God speaks to us through His Word, guiding us through our life's journey and giving us direction when it matters most. At times, the road may seem blocked or progress may feel slow. However, if we trust and follow God’s navigation—His Word—until the end, we will safely reach our intended destination.
I believe that Quiet Time (QT) and early morning prayer serve as the navigation system for our lives. By opening the Bible daily and listening attentively to God's voice through His Word, and by entrusting our lives to Him in prayer, we can walk in the right direction. May we set aside time to listen to the Lord’s voice and seek His guidance.
