2주간의 휴스턴 서울교회 연수를 은혜 가운데 잘 마치고 돌아왔습니다. 연수 기간 동안 기도해 주시고, 저희 자녀들을 챙겨 주신 성도님들께 먼저 깊은 감사를 드립니다. 여러분의 기도와 사랑이 있었기에 저희가 마음 놓고 연수에 집중할 수 있었습니다.

이번 연수를 통해 저는 다시 한번 가정교회가 답이다 라는 확신을 얻게 되었습니다. 특히 마음에 깊이 새겨진 배움은 다음과 같습니다.

예배에 목숨 거는 교회 : 주일 연합예배를 준비하는 과정은 시작부터 달랐습니다. 예배 전, 담임목사님과 대표기도자를 위해 집사님들이 함께 뜨겁게 기도하는 모습은 예배가 사람의 능력이 아니라 하나님의 은혜에 달려 있음을 보여주었습니다. 또한 예배 순서는 dead time 없이 물 흐르듯 자연스럽게 이어져, 온 회중이 하나님께 집중하도록 이끌었습니다. 설교 말씀 후에는 결단과 헌신의 자리에 나아오는 성도들의 행렬이 이어졌는데, 그것은 하나님의 임재를 경험하고, 말씀 앞에서 결단과 헌신이 일어나는 현장임을 보여주는 장면이었습니다.

목회자와 평신도의 사역분담이 잘 되어 있는 교회 : 삶공부와 각종 사역을 평신도가 주도적으로 감당하며, 목회자는 성도들을 세우는 일에 집중하고 있었습니다. 목회자와 평신도가 각자의 자리에서 조화를 이루며 함께 사역을 감당할 때 교회가 더욱 건강하게 세워진다는 것을 보았습니다.

헌신적인 사랑과 섬김의 희생이 있는 목자들 : 연수 기간 동안 놀라웠던 것은 한 목자가 두 목장을 동시에 섬기는 경우를 세 분이나 보았다는 사실입니다. 그들이 시간이 남아 돌아 서가 아니라, 영혼을 사랑하고 목장을 세우기 위해 기꺼이 자신을 내어놓았기 때문이었습니다. 이런 헌신과 희생이 목장을 든든히 세우는 힘이 되고 있음을 배웠습니다.

목장을 통해 하나님을 경험하고 제자가 세워지는 교회: 목장은 성도들이 삶을 나누고 서로의 기도제목을 붙들 며, 응답 속에서 하나님의 살아 계심을 체험하는 자리 였습니다. VIP가 복음을 받아들이고, 교회 공동체가 함께 기뻐하며 제자로 세워지는 과정을 통해, 교회의 본질 적인 사명이 목장을 통해 이루어진다는 것을 확인 했습 니다.

저에게 주어진 사명은 분명합니다. 먼저 말씀과 기도에 힘쓰며 평신도 사역자를 세우고, 성도들이 하나님을 경험하도록 이끄는 목회를 해야 합니다. 특별히 이번 학기에 진행되는 생명의 삶 공부를 통해 그런 은혜와 변화가 일어나기를 기대하며, 기도와 준비로 나아가겠습니다 

We have returned after completing two weeks of training at Houston Seoul Baptist Church by God’s grace. Above all, I would like to first express my heartfelt gratitude to members of our church who prayed for us during this time and cared for our children with love. Because of your prayers and support, we were able to focus fully on the training with peace of mind.

Through this training, I was once again convinced that the house church is the answer. The lessons that were especially impressed upon my heart are as follows.

A Church That Gives Its All for Worship: The preparation process for the Sunday joint worship service was different from the very beginning. Before the service, the deacons prayed fervently for the senior pastor and the representative prayer leader, showing that worship does not depend on human ability but on God’s grace. In addition, the order of service flowed naturally without any dead time, leading the entire congregation to focus on God. After the sermon, there was a line of believers coming forward to make decisions and dedicate themselves, demonstrating that worship is the very place where God’s presence is experienced and where decisions and commitments are made before His Word.

A Church Where Pastors and Lay Leaders Share Ministry Well: In life studies and various ministries, lay leaders were taking the lead, while pastors focused on equipping and building up the congregation. I witnessed that when pastors and lay leaders carry out their ministries in harmony, the church is built up in a much healthier way.

Shepherds with Sacrificial Love and Devoted Service:
What amazed me during the training was that I saw as many as three shepherds who were simultaneously serving two house churches. They were not doing this because they had extra time, but because they loved souls and were willing to give themselves fully to establish the house churches. I learned that such devotion and sacrifice become the strength that firmly upholds the house churches.

A Church Where God Is Experienced and Disciples Are Made through House Churches: A house church is where believers share their lives, carry each other’s prayer requests, and experience the living God through answered prayers. When VIPs accepted the gospel and the church community rejoiced together and celebrated, I witnessed how the essential mission of the church—winning souls and making disciples—was being fulfilled through the house church.

My calling is clear. I must first devote myself to the Word and prayer, raise up lay leaders, and lead the congregation to experience God. In particular, I pray and prepare with expectation that through this semester’s Life Study (Living Life) course, such grace and transformation will surely take place.
