휴스턴 서울교회 목회자 연수를 다녀온 후, 담임목사님 부재 중에 다양한 교회 행사들을 준비하며 바쁜 사역을 감당하고 있습니다. 감사와 기쁨으로 섬기지만, 동시에 큰 부담과 책임감을 경험하고 있습니다.

저는 오랫동안 해외 선교 현장에서 사역해왔지만, 한인교회 목회는 새로운 배움이 필요한 길이었습니다. 지난 3년간 유스사역과 청장년사역을 맡으며 하나님께서 주시는 훈련을 경험했습니다. 

이제 동사목사로서 담임목사님의 빈자리를 채우며 교회 전체를 섬기다 보니, "자리가 사람을 만든다"는 말을 새삼 깊이 느끼게 됩니다. 하나님께서 우리를 특정한 자리에 세우실 때는 그 자리를 통해 우리를 빚으시고 성장시키려는 목적이 있음을 실감합니다.

가정교회는 네 개의 정신이 있습니다. 그중 하나가 성경적인 사역분담(엡4:11-12)의 원칙입니다. 목사는 기도와 말씀을 전파하고 성도들을 양육하고 훈련하는데 전념합니다. 평신도는 목사로부터 받은 가르침과 훈련을 바탕으로 각자 받은 은사대로 교회를 세우는 다양한 봉사를 하는 것입니다. 

그래서 교회와 목장 내에서 한 가지 사역이리도 섬기도록 하는 1인 1사역을 권장합니다.  "1인 1사역" 정신에 따라 지금도 여러 자리에서 묵묵히 섬겨 주시는 성도님들이 계십니다. 예배 준비, 교육, 찬양, 보이지 않는 봉사까지 모든 수고는 교회를 든든히 세우는 귀한 헌신이며, 사역에 참여하시는 분들은 더 깊은 은혜와 기쁨을 경험하고 계십니다.

아직 사역에 참여하지 못한 분들에게도 하나님께서는 기회를 열어 주십니다. "내가 잘할 수 있을까?" 하는 마음이 들어도, 작은 섬김의 자리에서 시작할 때 하나님은 놀라운 보람과 기쁨으로 채워 주십니다.

사역 참여는 단순히 교회를 돕는 일이 아니라, 하나님께서 우리를 빚으시고 성장시키시는 소중한 기회입니다. 성도님들이 함께 사역을 감당해주실 때 저 또한 기도와 말씀 준비에 집중할 수 있어 모든 성도님들이 더 깊이 하나님의 은혜를 누리게 됩니다.

"자리가 사람을 만든다"는 말처럼, 하나님께서 우리 각자에게 맡겨 주신 섬김의 자리가 있습니다. 그 자리에서 충실히 섬길 때 우리는 성장하고, 교회는 모든 지체가 함께 세워져 가는 아름다운 공동체가 될 것입니다.

After attending the pastoral training at Houston Seoul Church, I have been serving in various church events during the senior pastor's absence. While I serve with gratitude and joy, I also experience great burden and responsibility at the same time.

I have served in overseas mission fields for a long time, but Korean church ministry required new learning and adaptation. Over the past four years, I have experienced God's training through youth ministry and adult ministry, and through this recent training.

Now, as a co- pastor filling in for the senior pastor and serving the entire church, I deeply feel the truth of the saying "position shapes the person." I realize that when God places us in a specific position, He has the purpose of molding and growing us through that position.

House Church has four core principles. One of them is the principle of biblical ministry distribution (Ephesians 4:11–12). The pastor is devoted to prayer, the ministry of the Word, and the work of nurturing and equipping the saints. The lay members, in turn, build up the church through various acts of service according to the gifts they have received, based on the teaching and training from the pastor.

For this reason, we encourage “one person, one ministry” so that each member serves in at least one area, whether in the church or within the house church. Even now, many of our members are faithfully serving in different roles—preparing worship, teaching, leading praise, and offering unseen support behind the scenes. All these efforts are precious acts of devotion that strengthen the church, and those who participate in ministry testify that they experience deeper joy and grace.

For those who have not yet taken part, God is opening the door for you as well. Even if you wonder, “Can I really do this?”—when you begin with a small step of service, God will fill you with unexpected joy and fulfillment.

Serving is not simply helping the church. It is a valuable opportunity through which God shapes us and helps us grow. As you share in ministry, I too am able to focus more fully on prayer and the preparation of the Word, so that all of us may experience the deeper grace of God together.

As the saying goes, “Position shapes the person.” God has given each of us a place of service. When we serve faithfully in that place, we are formed and strengthened, and the church becomes a beautiful community where every member builds up one another.
