11월 첫째 주일, 일광절약 시간이 끝나면서 우리는 시계를 한 시간 뒤로 돌립니다. 그래서인지 오늘은 유난히 한 시간을 더 얻은 것 같아 기분이 좋아집니다. 예전에는 시계를 맞추지 않아 예배 시간을 헷갈리곤 했지만,
요즘은 스마트폰이 자동으로 시간을 조정해 주니 그런 실수는 거의 없어졌습니다.
몬트리올의 일광절약이 끝나면 오후 4시만 되어도 이미 어둑해 집니다. 이제 겨울이 찾아온 것입니다. 11월이 되면 자연스레 겨울을 준비하게 됩니다. 운전자는 겨울 타이어를 교체하고, 아이들이 있는 가정은 따뜻한 부츠와 방한복을 챙깁니다. 우리 삶의 계절이 바뀌듯, 영혼의 계절도 준비가 필요합니다.
교회도 그렇습니다. 교회는 12월 성탄절을 준비합니다. 그래서 11월은 이것저것 할 일이 많아집니다. 작년에는 각 목장별 발표와 교육부 자녀들의 발표 준비로 분주하면서도 즐거운 성탄절을 보냈던 기억이 납니다.
올해 성탄절 예배와 행사는 VIP 초청과 챙김에 중점을 두기로 하여 목장별 발표 대신, 주일학교, 청소년부와 EYAM이 중심이 되어2–3개 목장이 연합하여 프로그램을 준비하게 될 것입니다. 이번 성탄 프로그램의 전체 기획과 구상을 맡은 안수현 목자님을 위해 기도해 주시기 바랍니다. 또한 성탄 행사의 여러 부분에서 재능과 은사가 있는 분들, 혹은 참여 요청을 받게 되는 분들은 기쁜 마음으로 적극적으로 함께해 주시기 바랍니다. 모두가 한마음으로 협력할 때,그 예배와 행사를 통해 더 큰 은혜와 감동이 흘러가게 될 것입니다.
이제 교회의 초점은 ‘행사’가 아니라 ‘영혼’입니다. 11월부터 12월 21일 성탄절 예배와 행사까지 우리는 VIP 초청과 전도를 위해 기도하며 그 일에 집중하려 합니다. 각 목장별로 VIP 5명 이상 리스트를 작성하여 예배와 목장 모임, 새벽기도회와 수요기도회를 통해 집중적으로 그들을 위해 기도할 예정입니다. 이 기간은 단순히 성탄 행사를 준비하는 시간이 아니라, 한 영혼을 주님께 인도하기 위한 믿음의 준비 기간이 될 것입니다.
What Should We Prepare for Winter?
On the first Sunday of November, daylight saving time ends, and we turn our clocks back one hour. Perhaps that’s why today feels like we’ve gained an extra hour, it gives us a small sense of joy. In the past, we often forgot to adjust our clocks and ended up confused about the worship time, but now that smartphones automatically update the time for us, such mistakes rarely happen.
When daylight saving time ends in Montreal, it’s already dark by 4 p.m. Winter has truly arrived. As November begins, we naturally start preparing for the cold season. Drivers change to winter tires, and families with children get ready with warm boots and winter clothing. Just as the seasons of our lives change, so do the seasons of our souls, they also require preparation.
The church is no different. The church begins preparing for Christmas in December. That’s why November tends to be a busy month. Last year, we had a joyful and lively Christmas season, with each house church and the children’s ministry preparing their own presentations.
This year, however, our Christmas worship and celebration will focus on inviting and caring for VIPs those who do not yet know the Lord. Instead of individual house church presentations, the Sunday School, Youth, and EYAM will take the lead, and two or three house churches will work together to prepare joint programs. Please pray for Shepherd Soohyun Ahn, who is overseeing and coordinating the overall Christmas program. Also, if you have gifts, talents, or receive a request to participate in the program, please join willingly and joyfully. When we work together in unity, God’s grace and blessing flow abundantly through our worship and celebration.
Now the focus of our church is no longer on “events,” but on “souls.” From November until our Christmas service and celebration on December 21, we will dedicate ourselves to prayer and evangelism, inviting and interceding for our VIPs. Each house church will prepare a prayer list of at least five VIPs, and together through worship, gatherings, early morning prayer, and Wednesday prayer meetings, we will lift them up before God.
This is not merely a time to plan for Christmas events, it is a season of faith, preparing to bring one soul closer to Christ.
The year 2025 has only two months remaining. As the seasons change and time passes, we are reminded to realign our lives before God. Though the cold winter approaches, may the warmth of the gospel burn brightly in our hearts and in our church. Through prayer for our VIPs and the practice of love, may these final two months of the year be remembered as the warmest and most meaningful time of all.
