지난 11월 3일 월요일, 저희 교회가 몬트리올 한인교회협의회 목회자 모임의 호스트 교회로 섬기게 되었습니다. 몬트리올에는 약 14개의 한인교회가 있으며, 협의회 모임은 두 교회가 함께 예배를 주최하고 예배 후 몬트리올 지역을 위해 기도한 뒤 점심 교제와 간단한 회의로 진행됩니다.

저는 최병희 목사님께서 오타와로 이주하신 이후 지난 9월부터 동사목사 자격으로 협의회에 참석하고 있습니다. 아직 담임목사는 아니지만, 하나님의 은혜로 이 모임에 함께할 수 있음에 감사한 마음입니다.

이번 모임은 제가 참석한 지 얼마 되지 않아 저희 교회가 주최를 맡게 되었고, 예배 전체 순서를 준비하며 설교까지 담당하게 되었습니다. 몬트리올에서 10년 이상, 길게는 30년 넘게 목회하신 선배 목사님들 앞에서 말씀을 전한다는 것은 큰 부담이었습니다. 하지만 기도 중에 하나님께서 부르심에 대한 말씀을 전하라는 마음을 주셨습니다.

그래서 제가 어떻게 저희 교회에서 사역하게 되었는지, 그 부르심의 여정을 간증으로 나누었습니다.  하나님께서 각 목사님을 이 땅으로 부르신 처음의 부르심을 다시 기억하자고 도전했습니다. 예배 후 여러 목사님들이 “초심을 다시 생각하게 되었다”, “부르심 앞에 새로 헌신하겠다” 하시며 격려해 주셨습니다.

또 설교 중에, 이제 한인교회는 한인들만의 교회로 머물러서는 안 된다는 점을 나누었습니다. 몬트리올은 이미 다민족 사회이며, 복음의 다음 세대는 영어권 중심으로 변화하고 있습니다. 실제로 저희 교회 청년부는 영어권 중심으로 전환되었고, 어른 목장 중에도 영어 목장이 있습니다. 아직 갈 길은 멀지만, 앞으로 One Church, Two Congregations—한 교회 두 공동체의 방향으로 나아가고 있습니다. 

이 비전은 저희 교회만의 것이 아니라, 몬트리올 모든 한인교회가 함께 품어야 할 방향이라 믿습니다. 한인 이민 세대의 신앙 위에 이제는 몬트리올의 수많은 불신자들—특히 퀘벡인들과 여러 민족들에게 복음을 전해야 합니다. 

몬트리올 한인교회들이 한인을 넘어 다민족에게 복음을 전하며, 이 땅에서 주님의 나라를 세워가는 일에 함께 쓰임 받기를 소망합니다.

Serving at MKCA meeting

On Monday, November 3, our church had the privilege of serving as the host church for the Montreal Korean Church Association Pastors’ Meeting. There are about 14 Korean churches in Montreal, and this association gathers with two churches co-hosting each meeting. Together we worship, pray for the Montreal region, share a fellowship meal, and then hold a brief meeting.

Since Pastor Choi Byeonghee relocated to Ottawa, I have been attending the association since September as an associate pastor. Although I am not yet a senior pastor, I am deeply thankful for the grace that allows me to participate in this fellowship.

This time, even though I had only recently joined, our church was chosen to host the meeting. Naturally, I was responsible for preparing the entire order of worship, including preaching. It was quite a burden to preach before senior pastors who have served in Montreal for more than 10, even up to 30 years. However, through prayer, God placed on my heart a message about His calling.

I shared how I came to serve at our church and testified about the journey of God’s calling in my life, encouraging the pastors to remember the first calling that brought them to this land. After the service, several pastors expressed that they were reminded of their first love and felt renewed in their commitment to God’s call.

During the sermon, I also shared that Korean churches can no longer remain only for Koreans. Montreal is already a multicultural city, and the next generation of the gospel is shifting toward the English-speaking context. In our church, the young adult ministry has already transitioned to an English-based group, and even one of our adult cell groups now functions as an English group. Though we still have a long way to go, we are moving toward the vision of One Church, Two Congregations—one church with two communities.

This vision is not only for our church but one that I believe all Korean churches in Montreal should embrace. Upon the foundation of the faith of the first-generation immigrants, we are now called to bring the gospel to the countless unreached people in Montreal—especially Québécois and other ethnic groups.
