제가 요즘 재미있게 보는 프로그램은 ‘야구여왕’입니다. 야구가 아닌 다른 스포츠 출신 여자 선수들이 모여서 야구를 하는 프로그램입니다. 출신 스포츠가 다양한데, 핸드볼이나 테니스등 공을 다루는 스포츠 출신도 있지만, 수영, 유도, 스피드 스케이팅, 리듬체조등 공과 상관없는 스포츠 출신들이 대부분입니다.
처음에 모여서 오디션을 하는데, 각 종목의 국가대표급 선수들이라서 체력은 좋은데 야구 기술은 형편없었습니다. 이렇게 기초가 없이 어떻게 야구 경기를 할 수 있을지 걱정이 될 정도였습니다.
어느 정도 연습을 하고 연습경기를 가졌는데 그때도 정말 보기 답답할 정도였습니다. 그런데 시간이 지나면서 실력이 향상되는 것을 봅니다.
목사라서 그런지 우리 교회에 적용이 되었습니다.^^ 특별히 우리 교회에서 신앙생활을 시작하는 분들깨 도움이 될 듯 합니다.
1. ‘기본기” 익히기. 공받기와 던지기, 그리고 타격 연습을 많이 한 것 같습니다. 그래서 어느 정도 수비가 되고 공격도 많이 좋아졌습니다. 기본적으로 운동신경이 있는 선수들이라서 그런 것 같습니다. 우리도 예수님을 믿으면 어린아이와 같습니다. 시간이 지나면서 성장해야 하는데, 먼저 ‘기본기’를 잘 익혀야 합니다. 기본기는 말씀과 기도와 목장과 예배 참석이라고 할 수 있습니다.
2. ‘상황대처능력’ 키우기. 야구 경기를 하다 보면 상황에 따라서 대처를 잘 해야 하는데, 시간이 지나면서 ‘상황대처능력’이 향상되었습니다. 예를 들어, 타자가 뜬 공으로 잡히면 주자가 돌아와야 하는데, 무턱대고 뛰다가 아웃이 되곤 했습니다. 이런 것들은 이론적으로만 기억해도 할 수 있는 것입니다. 우리도 신앙 생활을 하면서 우리에게 닥치는 상황에 대처하는 법을 배워야 합니다.
3. ‘상황개척능력’ 키우기. 아직도 부족한 부분이 눈에 띕는데 바로 ‘상황 개척 능력’입니다. 수비가 조금 느슨하면 도루를 한다든지, 뜬공이 나왔을 때 어느 정도 리드를 해서 혹시 공을 놓칠 때 뛸 준비를 하는 것등입니다. 이런 것들은 연습으로 할 수 있는 것이 아니라, 경기를 뛰면서 배우는 것입니다. 우리도 신앙생활을 하면서, 상황에 수동적으로 맞서는 것을 초월해서 적극적으로 하나님의 일이 되게 하는 것입니다.

The show I am currently enjoying is Baseball Queens. It features female athletes from various non-baseball backgrounds coming together to play baseball. While some come from ball sports like handball or tennis, the majority are from sports unrelated to ball games, such as swimming, judo, speed skating, and rhythmic gymnastics.
During their initial auditions, their physical fitness was excellent—as expected of national-level athletes—but their baseball skills were poor. It was concerning whether they could even play a game without the basics. Even after some practice, their first scrimmage was frustrating to watch; however, as time passes, I can see their skills improving.
Being a pastor, I naturally found myself applying this to our church. I think it will be especially helpful for those who are beginning their religious life in our church.
1. Mastering the "Fundamentals" The players first mastered the basics: catching, throwing, and batting. Because they are naturally athletic, their defense and offense improved significantly once they honed these skills. When we first believe in Jesus, we are like children and must grow by mastering basics. In our faith, these fundamentals are the Word, prayer and attending MokJang and Sunday worship.
2. Developing "Situational Adaptability"
When playing baseball, you have to be able to respond well to different situations, and as time goes by, their ‘situational coping skills’ have improved. For example, if a batter was caught on a fly ball, the runner needed to return to the base, but they would often keep running and get tagged out. These are things that can be done simply by remembering the theory. Similarly, we must learn how to respond to the various situations we encounter in our lives of faith.
3. Building "Situational Initiative"
The final stage is "situational initiative," which is still a work in progress for them. This involves actively creating opportunities, such as stealing a base when the defense is loose or leading off during a fly ball to be ready to run if the ball is dropped. These skills aren't learned through repetitive drills but through experience on the field. In our spiritual lives, this means moving beyond passive reactions and proactively making things happen for God’s work.
