보수는 개인의 자유와 책임을 강조합니다. 개인이 무엇을 선택할지 자유를 주고, 거기에 따른 책임도 지게 합니다. 경제적으로는 자본주의를 따릅니다. 정부는 어려운 사람을 바로 돕기 보다는 개인이 독립하도록 돕습니다. 그 결과, 세금을 줄이고 작은 정부를 추구합니다.

진보는 반대입니다. 진보는 개인이 자발적으로 결정하게 하기 보다는 정부에서 지침을 줍니다. 경제적으로는 사회주의를 따릅니다. 정부는 어려운 사람들을 바로 돕기 때문에 세금을 올리고 큰 정부를 추구합니다.

보수와 진보 중에 어느 것이 더 좋은 것은 아니고, 서로 보완적인 관계에 있습니다. 나라 전체적으로는 보수와 진보가 돌아가면서 정권을 잡는 것이 바람직합니다. 보수가 정권을 잡으면 보수의 장점을 살리지만, 어려운 사람들이 힘들어 하는 보수의 약점이 생기는데, 진보가 정권을 잡으면 이런 문제를 해결할 수 있기 때문입니다.

보수와 진보의 개념은 자녀양육에도 적용됩니다. 보수적 부모는 참견을 줄이고 자녀가 알아서 하도록 기다립니다. 자녀는 책임감을 키울 수 있고 독립심이 자라지만, 어려움을 극복하지 못하면 상황이 악화되거나 포기하게 됩니다.

반면 진보적 부모는 자녀를 지속적으로 도와줍니다. 자녀가 어려울 때 도움을 받음으로 인해 바로 부족함을 메꿀 수 있고 자녀의 마음이 편안합니다. 그러나 자립심과 책임감이 결여될 위험이 있습니다. 

보수와 진보의 개념은 목회에도 적용됩니다(목사님이나 목자님). 보수적 목회자는 목자님들 (혹은 목장식구들)이 자발적으로 헌신하기를 기다립니다. 지침을 주고 나면 그분들이 알아서 하도록 배려합니다. 또 문제가 생겨도 자신들이 해결하도록 시간을 줍니다.  가정교회의 특징인 위임목회에 부합되지만, 자칫하면 방임이 될 위험이 있습니다.

반면 진보적 목회자는 목자님들 (혹은 목장식구들)에게 헌신이나 결단을 요청합니다. 지침을 주고 나서 자주 점검합니다. 문제가 생기면 바로 개입해서 해결해 줍니다. 가정교회의 특징인 위임과 거리가 있지만 목회가 활발하고 문제가 바로 해결되는 장점이 있습니다.

이것도 정답은 없습니다. 저는 보수적 목회를 하는 편인데, 장목사님은 진보적 목회를 하는 것 같습니다. 목회 스타일의 선호를 따지지 말고 목회 스타일에 잘 적응하면 좋겠습니다. 목자님들에게도 똑같이 적용됩니다.

Conservatism emphasizes individual freedom and responsibility. It gives individuals the freedom to make their own choices and holds them accountable for their choices. Economically, it follows capitalism. The government, rather than directly assisting those in need, helps individuals become independent. As a result, it pursues tax cuts and a smaller government.

Progressives are the opposite. Rather than allowing individuals to make their own decisions, they rely on the government to provide guidance. Economically, it follows socialism. Because the government primarily seeks to directly assist those in need, it raises taxes and pursues a larger government.

Neither conservative nor progressive is superior; they complement each other. For the nation as a whole, it is desirable for conservatives and progressives to alternate in power. A conservative government can capitalize on its strengths, but it can also expose its weaknesses, making it difficult for those in need. A progressive government can address these issues.

The concepts of conservatism and progressivism also apply to parenting. Conservative parents tend to be less involved and wait for their children to figure things out on their own. Children develop a sense of responsibility and independence, but if they fail to overcome challenges, the situation worsens or they give up.

Conversely, progressive parents provide ongoing support for their children. By providing support when faced with challenges, children can immediately address their needs and feel at ease. However, this can lead to a lack of independence and responsibility.

The concepts of conservatism and progressivism also apply to pastors and shepherds. Conservative pastors wait for their Mokjas (or Mokjang members) to commit. After providing guidance, they let them do it themselves. If a problem arises, give them time to resolve it themselves. While this aligns with the delegated ministry characteristic of house churches, it can easily lead to neglect.

On the other hand, progressive pastors ask for commitment and determination from their Mokjas (or Mokjang members). They provide guidance and then check in frequently. If a problem arises, they intervene immediately to resolve it. While this differs from the delegation characteristic of house churches, it offers the advantage of active pastoral care and prompt problem resolution.

There's no right answer here. I tend to practice conservative ministry, but Pastor Jang seems to practice progressive ministry. Rather than judging which style is superior, I hope you adapt well to it. This applies equally to Mokjas.
