지난 2월 28일, 미국과 이스라엘의 합동 군사작전으로 이란 공격이 시작된 지 어느덧 5주가 넘었습니다. 이번 주 극적으로 2주간의 휴전 협정이 체결됐지만 여전히 불확실한 상황이 계속되고 있습니다. 전쟁의 여파로 휘발유 가격이 치솟고, 이미 오를 대로 오른 물가에 서민들의 삶은 더욱 팍팍해졌습니다. 우리도 이 전쟁의 고통에서 자유롭지 않습니다.
공격이 시작된 바로 그날, 저는 딸 혜민이를 이란 이민자 가정 친구의 생일 파티에 데려다주면서 '어떤 말로 위로해야 하지?' 당황스러웠습니다. 그런데 그들의 반응이 저의 예상을 완전히 달랐습니다 하메네이와 이슬람 혁명수비대가 공격을 받았다는 소식이 이들에게는 비극이 아니라 해방의 소식이었고, 이란 국민의 90% 이상이 이 전쟁을 원했다며 이스라엘과 미국의 개입을 오히려 고마워했습니다. 테헤란에 거주하는 가족들로 인해 걱정은 했지만, 하메네이가 죽은 것이 잘 됐다는 반응이었습니다
이란 국민들은 47년간 이슬람 공화국의 억압 아래 신음해왔습니다. 히잡 착용 문제로 목숨을 잃고, 시위에 참여했다는 이유만으로 13살 아이가 사형 선고를 기다리는 나라. 더 충격적인 사실은, 지금 전쟁이 멈추고 이슬람 혁명수비대가 그대로 존재한다면 전쟁 중 희생되는 사람보다 훨씬 더 많은 이란 사람들이 정권의 손에 죽게 된다는 것입니다. 그들은 전쟁을 좋아서가 아니라, 살기 위해 원하고 있는 것입니다.
예레미야 49장 34-39절 에서 하나님은 고대 이란을 가리키는 엘람이 온 세계로 흩어질 것과, 마침내 그 땅에 하나님의 보좌가 세워질 것을 말씀하셨습니다. 47년의 디아스포라, 이슬람의 실체를 목격하며 지하 교회에서 피어난 수백만의 이란 기독교인들, 예언은 이미 조용히 성취되어가고 있습니다
우리는 때로 이 세대의 전쟁과 불의한 모습들을 보며 "하나님은 왜 보고만 계시는가?" 라는 생각을 하기도 합니다. 전쟁이 주는 고통과 두려움은 우리도 결코 외면할 수 없습니다. 그러나 하나님은 결코 방관하지 않으십니다. 때로는 우리가 싫어하고 혐오하는 사람들조차 들어 사용하십니다.
이란출신으로 한국에서 이란사람들 교회를 담임하는 박씨마 목사님은 이란 땅 거리마다 찬양 소리가 울려 퍼지는 그날을 위해, 47년의 억압 속에 신음하는 이란 국민들을 위해 매일 눈물을 흘리며 기도한다고 합니다. 이슬람 혁명세력이 무너지고 이란에 종교의 자유가 오도록 우리도 이란을 위해 기도합시다.
It has now been over five weeks since the joint U.S.-Israeli military operation began its strike on Iran on February 28th. This week, a dramatic two-week ceasefire agreement was reached, yet the situation remains deeply uncertain. In the wake of the war, gas prices have surged, and with the cost of living already at painful highs, the burden on ordinary families has grown even heavier. We ourselves are not untouched by the suffering this war has brought.
On the very day the attack began, I was driving my daughter Hyemin to a birthday party at the home of her Iranian immigrant friend. Standing at their front door, I was flustered — what words of comfort could I even offer? But their reaction was nothing like what I had expected. The news that Khamenei and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had been struck was not a tragedy to them — it was a message of liberation. They said that more than 90% of the Iranian people had wanted this war, and expressed genuine gratitude for the intervention of Israel and the United States. They were worried about family members still in Tehran, yet their response was clear: the death of Khamenei was something they welcomed.
The Iranian people have been suffering under the oppression of the Islamic Republic for 47 years. A country where a woman loses her life over a hijab, where a 13-year-old child awaits a death sentence simply for joining a protest. Even more shocking is this: if the war stops now and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps remains intact, far more Iranians will die at the hands of the regime than have perished in the war itself. They do not want war because they love it — they want it because they want to live.
In Jeremiah 49:34–39, God declared that Elam — the ancient name for Iran — would be scattered to the four corners of the earth, and that He would ultimately establish His throne in that land. Forty-seven years of diaspora, millions of Iranian Christians who have emerged from underground churches after witnessing the true nature of Islam — the prophecy is already being quietly fulfilled.
There are moments when we look at the wars and injustices of this generation and wonder, "Why does God just stand by and watch?" The pain and fear that war brings is something none of us can simply dismiss. Yet God is never a passive bystander. He works within history, and at times He even uses those we despise and find reprehensible.
Pastor Shima Park, who came from Iran and now pastors an Iranian congregation in Korea, prays daily with tears for the day when songs of praise will fill every street in Iran — for the Iranian people who have groaned under 47 years of oppression. May the revolutionary Islamic forces be brought down, and may freedom of religion come to Iran. Let us join her, and pray together for Iran.
