자기주도학습’이란 남이 시켜서 공부하는 것이 아니라, 자기가 알아서 공부하는 것입니다. 어렸을 때에는 부모님들이나 선생님들이 공부하도록 시키는 것이 필요합니다. 그러나 궁극적으로는, 알아서 공부하도록 습관을 붙여주는 것이 필요합니다. 자기가 알아서 공부할 때 동기부여가 되고 또 공부도 훨씬 효율적으로 할 수 있습니다. 고등학교 때까지는 부모가 같이 있으면서 공부하라고 할 수 있어도, 집을 떠나 대학교에 가면 알아서 공부해야 합니다. 자기주도학습을 하지 못한 학생은 대학교에서 고생을 하든지, 아니면 실패할 확률이 높습니다. 

또 자기주도학습은 다른 사람의 가르침을 받아 배우는 것이 아니라 자기 힘으로 공부하여 깨우치고 이해하는 것입니다. 학원이나 과외선생님을 의지해서 배우는 것이 아니라 자기 힘으로 깨우치고 이해하는 것입니다. 저도 학원을 다니고 과외를 했지만, 제가 혼자서 공부할 때 훨씬 더 좋은 결과를 얻었습니다. 

저는 자기주도학습의 열렬한 주창자인데, 얼마 전에 다른 사람에게 배우는 것도 필요하다는 것을 깨달았습니다. 유명한 노래를 기타로 반주하는 소츠를 봤는데, 각 코드마다 치면 안되는 줄을 보여 주었습니다. 예를 들어, D  코드를 잡으면 1번과 2번 줄은 치면 안되는데, 저는 모든 줄을 다 쳤습니다. 제가 기타를 치면 소리가 별로 안 좋았는데, 제가 치면 안되는 줄을 쳐서 그랬다는 것을 깨달았습니다.

저는 기타도 혼자서 노래책을 보면서‘자기주도학습’으로 배웠습니다. 만일 기타 학원에 다니거나 기타를 제대로 치는 사람에게 배웠다면 각 코드마다 치면 안되는 줄을 치지 않아서 소리가 훨씬 좋았을 것입니다.

신앙생활도 ‘자기주도신앙’으로 하는 것이 바람직합니다. 우리 교회는 목회자가 주도해서 사역하기 보다는 성도님들이 알아서 사역하는 바람직한 모습을 가지고 있습니다. 저는 그것이 기쁘고 자랑스럽습니다. 

그러나 ‘자기주도신앙’으로 하다 보면, 자칫 부족함이 있어도 깨닫지 못할 수 있습니다. 물론 열매도 잘 맺지 못합니다. 그래서 목회자나 신앙의 선배로부터 배움이 필요합니다. 삶공부가 중요합니다. 세미나나 컨퍼런스에 참석해서 사역의 지혜와 간증을 듣는 것이 필요합니다. 가사원 홈피에 올라오는 나눔을 읽는 것이 필요합니다. 

‘자기주도신앙’과 ‘배우기’가 잘 결합할 때 쓸데 없이 고생하지 않고 많은 열매를 맺는 신앙생활을 할 수 있습니다. 

' Self-directed learning ' means studying on one's own initiative, rather than being forced to do so by others. When children are young, it is necessary for parents or teachers to encourage them to study. However, ultimately, it is essential to instill the habit of studying on one's own. When children study independently, they are motivated and can study much more efficiently. While parents staying with their children can encourage them to study until high school, once they leave home to go to university, they must study on their own. Students who are unable to engage in self-directed learning are likely to struggle or fail in university.

Furthermore, self-directed learning is not about learning through the instruction of others, but about studying, realizing, and understanding on one's own. It is not learning by relying on academies or private tutors, but gaining insight and understanding through one's own efforts. Although I attended academies and received private tutoring, I achieved much better results when studying on my own.

I am an ardent advocate of self-directed learning, but recently I realized that learning from others is also necessary. I watched a video of someone accompanying famous songs on the guitar, and they showed which strings should not be played for each chord. For example, when playing a D chord, you are not supposed to play the 1st and 2nd strings, but I played every single one. I realized that the sound I produced when playing the guitar was not very good because I was hitting the strings that shouldn't have been played.

I learned the Guitar by ‘self-directed learning' using songbooks. If I had attended a guitar academy or learned from someone who played properly, the sound would have been much better because I would not have played the wrong strings for guitar chords.

It is also recommended to have a life of faith based on 'self-directed faith’. Our church embodies the desirable model where the congregation takes the initiative to minister rather than the pastor taking the lead. I am happy and proud of this.

However, if you practice 'self-directed faith’, you may fail to realize your shortcomings. Naturally, you will also fail to bear fruit. Therefore, learning from pastors or mentors in faith is necessary. Life study is important. It is necessary to attend seminars or conferences to hear wisdom on ministry and testimonies. When 'self-directed faith' and 'learning' are well combined, you can lead a life of faith that bears much fruit without suffering needlessly.
